A new industrial relations bill has been put before state Parliament. While this bill contains improvements that are important and welcome for public servants, the issue of temporary employment still remains to be properly addressed. We need to ensure it is addressed through changes to the Public Service Act to protect and improve job security.
The misuse of temporary employment doesn’t only affect those who are on temporary contracts. It affects other people as well. It makes management of workloads and resources more difficult. It makes the important work that public servants do harder.
We can address job security and temporary employment through legislation in Parliament through a collective campaign as union members.
Already in our campaign, 829 Together members made a submission to the parliamentary committee tasked with examining this bill, asking our politicians to vote for stronger rights for ongoing temporary, casual and contract employees. This is an unprecedented number of submissions for a committee inquiry!
Now via Together’s online rally - our message to politicians to address job security has reached over 500,000 Queenslanders! Our calls for politicians to act are growing louder by the day.
